In August 2019, UNDP and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), signed three agreements on post disaster recovery after Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique. The is the first cooperation between the two parties under the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund (SSCAF) since CIDCA’s establishment in 2018. The projects will assist the three countries to reconstruct homes and community facilities including schools and markets to help women, men and children build back better after the disaster and to ensure that no one is left behind.
In 2017, the Government of China under the SSCAF together with UNDP, supported recovery and reconstruction efforts for half a million people in five affected countries: Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, the Commonwealth of Dominica, and Antigua and Barbuda. The new three projects build on this work and partnership.
