China’s South-South Cooperation with Pacific Island Countries in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Series Report: Renewable Energy

This report is part of a policy series that identifies challenges and opportunities in China’s South-South cooperation with Pacific island countries (PICs) in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on SDG 7 related to renewable energy. It looks at Samoa, Fiji and Papua New Guinea and highlights their renewable energy sources, targets and experience. It provides an analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by PICs in reaching the SDG on renewable energy. It finds that existing China-PICs renewable energy cooperation has limited, and identifies major opportunities for China to enhance and expand its renewable energy cooperation with PICs in the context of SDGs.
