Unleashing the Potential of Philanthropy in China

Unleashing the Potential of Philanthropy in China

May 27, 2016

This report believes that China today has the unprecedented opportunity to tap into its expanding non-profit and philanthropic sector. Home to record numbers of billionaires who have started to give back, with more and more corporations investing in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and with an expanding middle class increasingly aware of environmental and social challenges, China has vast resources to mobilize in support of philanthropy.

This report aims to present a basic overview of the state of development of philanthropy in China, with a special focus on the practical governance and policy-related reforms needed to unleash the true potential of this sector in China.

This Report, Unleashing the Potential of Philanthropy in China, was commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, and prepared by the research team at 51Give, a platform that provides online tools and processing services to enable the collection of charitable donations in China.
