“South-South Cooperation is a key vehicle to achieve sustainable development. UNDP is interested in enhancing its development activities in South-South Cooperation between China and African countries in areas of basic infrastructures and livelihoods”, said Nicholas Rosellini, “Through partnership with CAFIC, UNDP will leverage the strengths to enhance knowledge and experience sharing on industrial development in African countries, including through SEZs, and support these countries to identify their comparative advantages for industrialization.”
Han Hongmei, Chairman of China-Africa Fund for Industrial Cooperation, noted the potential of the collaboration: “CAFIC upholds ‘commitment, innovation, endeavor and win-win’ as the core values to promote industrial cooperation between China and African countries, and to enhance the well-being of people living in African countries. We share the same goal with UNDP. As an African proverb goes, ‘If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. ’ Through the partnership with UNDP, we hope to help Africans lift out of poverty and facilitate industrialization in Africa. ”
The MOU, signed in this historic day, manifests the increasing significance of South-South Cooperation for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. Under the framework of South-South Cooperation, UNDP and CAFIC will collaborate on data sharing, joint research and pilot projects by leveraging their connections and expertise, in the pursuit of SDGs and sustainable development in China and Africa.
