UN system in China welcomes new Resident Coordinator

Mr. Alain Noudehou, newly-appointed UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, presented his credentials to Mr. Wang Yi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on 14 May 2014.

Mr. Noudehou expressed his commitment to the UN’s mission in China, specifically in enhancing sustainable development and helping achieve national development goals as well as the global Millennium Development Goals. He brings to his new position strong experience in programme delivery and policy advisory services, having previously held the post of UN Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Zimbabwe from July 2010 to March 2014. He was Country Director of UNDP Tanzania from 2007 to 2010.

Mr. Noudehou holds a Master Degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed his undergraduate degree at Tsinghua University in China in 1990 and speaks English, Chinese, French, and Fon.

On the heels of presenting his credentials as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Alain Noudehou travelled to Shanghai to welcome the UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon who is on a visit to China.

Accompanying the Secretary-General’s delegation, Mr. Noudehou greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping and met with Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Wang Yi for the second time in as many weeks.

Mr. Noudehou also joined the Secretary-General during his meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
