The annual Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of the UNDP-Macao Initiative for Carbon Sequestration through Sustainable Forest Management took place on 25 April 2014 in Beijing. A representative of the donor, the government of Macao SAR, joined the meeting, during which the 2013 achievements of the project and the work plan for 2014 were reviewed.

Project efforts in garnering domestic and international attention were commended by representative from the Macao government Mr. Kong Son Cheong, who regarded this first-ever cooperation between UNDP and Macao as a great success. The project has enjoyed high visibility and has been well recognized by senior UN and UNDP officials through a series of high-level events, including a donation ceremony for carbon footprint calculators attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in June 2013; a project site visit by UNDP Administrator Helen Clark in August; and a visit to Macao by UNDP Associate Administrator Rebeca Grynspan in October.

Mr. Kong also noted that, in addition to its technical achievements, the project had high performance in aspects of public awareness and visibility. The results of the project have been disseminated through various media channels such as websites, newspapers, magazines, and TV programmes, reaching an audience of over 0.5 million.
