Sustainable Urbanization discussed at UN High-Level Symposium in Yangzhou
The UN High-Level Symposium on Sustainable Urbanization and Sustainable Cities was held by UNDESA in Yangzhou from December 16th to 18th. Participants including Wu Hongbo, USG in charge of UNDESA, UNHABITAT, officials from 27 countries, and CPC Secretary and Mayor of Yangzhou.
The purpose of the Symposium is to assist urban planners, mayors and decision-makers in developing countries in improving decision-making in urban planning and in moving toward sustainable cities and sustainable urbanization.
UNDP China Deputy Country Director Steven Sabey and NHDR Coordinator Wang Dong represented UNDP in this symposium. Steven gave a keynote remark at the opening session on behalf of UN China. And Wang Dong gave a presentation on NHDR and latest urbanization strategies of China at session II on urban planning. Both the remark and presentation received high interests from participants and a few questions were raised and responded.
The outcome of the symposium will feed into the Open Working Group on SDGs and the work of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
