UN China goes green

01 Jan 2013

In an effort to promote low carbon travel among the UN staff in China, UNDP launched a pilot initiative through which employees will now be able to travel to meetings and other engagements using 3 new UN bikes – registered UN666, UN888 and UN007. The initiative was launched by Rebeca Grynspan, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Associate Administrator, during her official visit to China at the end of 2012, and the bikes have since attracted interest from across the UN country team – despite the cold weather in Beijing. It is hoped that the campaign will inspire other UN offices and employees in China and maybe in other parts of the world to lead by example and consider their own impact on the environment.
