Sustainable Development Rests on Opportunities for Global and Regional Cooperation

17 May 2012

UNDP Administrator Miss Helen Clark met with Mr. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss cooperation opportunities between UNDP and China on global and regional issues, including the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), the post-2015 development agenda and strengthening partnership for South-South Cooperation.

Mr. Yang noted the importance that the Chinese government attaches to UNDP's global presence and willingness to assist China as it engages with the world. In particular, the strengthening of a strategic partnership that Miss Clark signed with Premier Wen Jiabao in 2010, to promote South-South Cooperation, was at the centre of a series of exchanges aimed at identifying ways UNDP can maximise the sharing of China's rapid development experiences with other developing countries.
