China-Cambodia-UNDP Trilateral Cooperation Pilot
On 27 December 2011, UNDP and the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) launched a pioneering joint pilot initiative with the Government of Cambodia. More than 30 participants took part in a three-week training course on cassava cultivation techniques, under an initiative established as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP and China to promote South-South Cooperation. Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, in Hainan Province, the partnership has benefitted from strong cooperation between UNDP China and UNDP Cambodia, with additional support coming from the UNDP Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau. The training itself is the first ever trilateral project with the Chinese government. And while the Chinese Government provided the training venue, Chinese expertise, accommodation and other costs, UNDP was able to contribute by undertaking the training needs assessment in Cambodia, providing substantive inputs to the agenda, and fielding an international expert and facilitator to join the training.
