Associate Administrator meets with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister
UN Under-Secretary General and UNDP Associate Administrator, Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, met with Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zhang Kunsheng, on 16 September 2011, to discuss progress made since the signing of a strategic agreement on South-South Cooperation, entered into by UNDP and the Government of China in 2009.
Having agreed that cooperation between UNDP and China had been very strong over the past 30 years, and that mutual trust had been greatly enhanced during the process of working together, Ms. Grynspan introduced UNDP's role in post-conflict initiatives in developing countries and expressed her hope that China would join UNDP in supporting these efforts in the future. She also spoke of UNDP's commitment to working with China in helping it to meet its own development challenges and continue lifting people out of poverty around the world.
Mr. Zhang confirmed his willingness to support these efforts and expressed China's readiness to work with UNDP in a continuing to implement the strategic partnership agreement, and promote trilateral cooperation in a manner that would hopefully encourage other countries to do likewise.
