    Sanjiangyuan is in the area of the Tibetan Plateau in Qinghai province, which contains the headwaters of the Yellow River, the Yangtze River, and the Mekong River. Covering the southern and eastern parts of Qinghai, it has various landforms, high altitude grassland, mountains, wetlands and forest system. These eco systems provide shelters for various wildlife. It is estimated in the Blue Book of Constructing Qinghai Ecological Civilization that the ecological value of Sanjiangyuan area could be up to US$ 2 trillion (RMB 14 trillion).

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of China represented by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) have strengthened ties for cooperation on sustainable development with the signing of an Action Plan for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The signing took place during the first official Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation organized by the Chinese Government on 14-15 May, in Beijing.

    We at UNDP have been assisting China in its global efforts especially since the launch of our global governance initiative in 2012 and today the launch of the third Global Governance Report further showcases our commitment. This Report has been drafted in light of the discussions that took place at the third High-level Policy Forum on Global Governance held in November 2016 and is based on some of the key perspectives raised by participants. The Forum was designed to provide support to China and the other BRI countries in achieving their development aspirations and shaping the BRI into a platform for “shared prosperity”, linked explicitly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    Aiyikumus is a student in the Special school of Altai Prefecture, Xinjiang. She participated in the first session of the series event “Wild Animals Protection Awareness Month and Love Birds Week” in her school hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)-Global Environment Facility (GEF) Xinjiang Wetland, the Altai Mountains Forestry Bureau and Liangheyuan Provincial Nature Reserve Management Bureau.
