1. China’s South-South Cooperation with Pacific Island Countries in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Series Report: An Overarching Analysis

April 10, 2017

This report is part of a policy series that identifies challenges and opportunities in China’s South-South cooperation with Pacific island countries (PICs) in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This overarching report identifies PICs’ development challenges and needs, and explores opportunities for China to enhance development cooperation with the region. It finds that PICs have recorded mixed outcomes on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and are facing persistent challenges to achieve the SDGs. China has emerged as one of the major development partners for the Pacific and has shown strong commitments to supporting PICs as well as other developing countries in achieving the SDGs. This report provides concrete policy recommendations on how China could strengthen its engagement with PICs in their SDG implementation process and improve coordination and cooperation with other development partners in the Pacific region
