The UNDP Resident Representative is the UNDP Administrator's representative at the country level, and head of the country office being ultimately accountable for UNDP’s programme and operations, including for the quality and sustainability of UNDP interventions on the ground.
Ms. Agi Veres, UNDP Resident Representative in China
Ms. Agi Veres is the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, and prior to that Country Director since August 2015. She is leading UNDP’s domestic development programme in China, as well as UNDP’s engagement with China on South-South and global development cooperation.
Ms. Veres has been working for UNDP since 2002 in various capacities at headquarters, regional and country levels. Prior to her appointments in UNDP China, she was the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Lesotho (2011-2015), and deputy of the Bratislava Regional Centre for Europe and the CIS (2009-2011). Ms Veres also served as Deputy Chief for Policy and Programme in Bratislava Regional Centre for Europe and the CIS (2006-2008), Corporate Reporting and Business Analysis Team Lead (2005-2006), and ICT Communications Officer at UNDP Headquarters (2002-2005).
Prior to joining UNDP, Ms. Veres worked in the private sector as a management consultant for Accenture, as an Organizational Change Management expert in Hungary and New York (1997 to 2002) with specialization in organizational effectiveness, change management and business process reengineering.
Ms. Veres is a native of Hungary and has a degree of Master of Sciences in Business Administration from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences.
Mr. Devanand Ramiah, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in China
Dev is a development practitioner with the United Nations Development Programme with 15+ years of experience. Before joining UNDP China, Devanand was the Team Leader for the Southeast Asia and Pacific Cluster for the Regional Bureau for Asia and Pacific (RBAP) of UNDP based in Bangkok, Thailand. Prior to moving to Thailand, Devanand was the Asia and Pacific Team Leader for the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) based in New York, USA. He also served as the Conflict Prevention and Recovery Advisor for Asia Pacific in BCPR.
Preceding his move to BCPR, Devanand served as the Peace and Development Specialist for UNDP Sri Lanka. His UN field experience includes serving in the United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNMET) and United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK). Devanand also served as the Resident Representative ad interim in UNDP Maldives.
Prior to joining the UN, Devanand was attached to the Center for Policy Alternatives in Sri Lanka as a senior researcher. He also consulted for several think tanks including National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and USAID.
Devanand is a Fulbright scholar and holds a Masters degree in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), Virginia, USA. Devanand has extensive training and teaching experience. He was an Adjunct Professor on Peace and Development at the Centre for Global Affairs, New York University and taught a course on Applied Peace Building at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, New York.
