UNDP in China
Who we are
In China, UNDP works with the people and Government of China, and other partners to pursue equitable and sustainable human development both at home and overseas. We help China develop and implement policies, institutional capabilities and partnerships to achieve the sustainable development goals domestically, and to connect China’s experience to advance other developing countries for sustainable growth worldwide.
We provide development advisory services and implement projects through innovation and applying our international experience and network.
Globally, UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.
What we do
We have drawn on our world-wide experience for almost four decades to assist China both in developing solutions to its own development challenges, and in its South-South cooperation and engagement in global development.
UNDP’s goals in China are closely linked to the government’s. We facilitate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the 13th Five-Year Plan, focusing on reducing inequality, recalibrating the economy for more inclusive, stable growth, reducing the environmental impacts of China’s rapid development, and supporting China’s increasing role in global development cooperation.
Within this framework our programmes address the following areas:
- Eliminating Poverty and Reducing Inequalities
- Address Environmental Degradation and Climate Action
- Disaster Management
- China and the World – promoting South-South Cooperation and a sustainable Belt and Road Initiative
UNDP China’s actions and programmes are defined in its Country Programme Document for China 2016-2020 which is prepared between UNDP and the Government of China. The CPD is based on the broader United Nations Development Assistance Framework UNDAF Action Plan 2016-2020.
